Parents and children who need transportation to Halifax for medical appointments now have a free service to turn to for help.
Moncton-owned Transit Rent-a-Car offers a Care-a-Van which is free vehicle rental to make the trip.
Business manager Anthony Taylor says the idea came to him after an experience he had more than two years ago.
“One fella from Shediac with twin daughters had followed me back to Moncton and when we got home, I realized his car wasn’t safe for the road. From there the idea of giving them a free car rental just popped into my mind.”
Taylor says the inspiration also came from his own son who developed a rare auto-immune deficiency problem and needed to go to the IWK for treatment.
Since the service began a couple of years ago, about 40 families have taken advantage of the free service.
