A home for young, pregnant women is one step closer to reality in Greater Moncton.
The YWCA is hoping to purchase a building on Kendra Street.
A rezoning application has been accepted by Moncton City Council and a public hearing has also been held with no concerns raised.
YWCA Executive Director Jewell Mitchell says this home would provide a number of services.
“It would include a licensed child care facility, administrative offices, women’s resource centre and provide housing for 15 young, pregnant and parenting women.”
She says the next step is the application will go back to council for a second and third reading, which is expected to happen March 16th.
If that is approved the sale will go through.
Mitchell says if all goes well, they hope to open in the fall, but that would be the earliest possible date.
