Provincial Conflict of Interest Commissioner Rules For Minister Boudreau

MLA and provincial cabinet minister Victor Boudreau is not in a conflict of interest according to New Brunswick’s conflict of interest commissioner.

Shediac campground owner Marie-Paule Martin had filed a complaint against Boudreau alleging he used confidential information to become part of consortium to build a new mega-campground in the community.

“I felt that honestly I have nothing against Victor personally, but his position, that’s something else,” says Martin. “When you are a public elected figure, you have to tread on the side of honesty, and I found that he was not honest.”

Martin admits waging a battle against not only an MLA but also the provincial and municipal governments was one that she figured she couldn’t win.

Boudreau has always denied the allegations.

Martin and many others have been protesting a proposed mega-campground for Shediac which critics say would destroy important wetlands, saturate the campground market and lead to overcrowding in the seaside resort community.
