It’s a good day to stay indoors, and if you have work planned for outside today, reschedule if you can.
Moncton and Southeast New Brunswick, and Fredericton and Southern York County are under extreme cold warnings this morning.
Meteorologist with Environment Canada Jason Sheppard says this isn’t unusual for this time of year.
He says, “The winds are fairly high, in conjunction with the cold overnight temperatures, given the windchill this morning. It’s not anything that is uncommon, it’s the first real winter cold snap that we have had this year.”
Wind chill values are around minus 35 degrees.
With this type of warning comes an elevated risk for frost bite or hypothermia.
If you have to be outside, watch for symptoms and complaints including shortness of breath, wheezing and cough, change in the colour of your fingers and toes, pain, numbness and tickling sensation in extremities
