The Mayor of Moncton would like to see a quick fix to some of the flooding issues along Jonathan Creek which have become a nightmare for many residents of Westbrook Circle.
About 140 mm of rain fell in Moncton on December 10th and 11th, flooding homes and businesses and forcing the closure of West Main Street at Jones Lake.
George LeBlanc says the bottleneck is a small culvert along Jonathan Creek at the mouth of the Petitcodiac River, owned by C-N Rail.
He says, “In order for it to be fixed, we have to start at the bottom to fix that bottleneck. If we start further up the creek, then the water that you allow to pass through will still hit the same bottleneck in the end.”
A deal between the city and C-N is expected sometime in the New Year.
Leblanc says the other small culverts upstream are owned by the province and also need to be replaced.
