Moncton Mayor Says City Awaits Funding Confirmation For Entertainment Centre

You may now feel an absence of something, on your travels down Main Street. It may be because Highfield Square is officially gone from where it stood for 47 years.

But what happens now?

Moncton Mayor George Leblanc says other steps have already been taken, but they’re still awaiting funding approval from the provincial and federal governments.

He says, “We have received the proposals from the two groups that were shortlisted by council, they’ve done all of their work, but council has now been able to make a decision on it because it has not received confirmed funding.”

He is very hopeful and optimistic that a funding approval will come in the near future. In most recent talks, the city of Moncton had hoped to break ground on a new entertainment centre in the spring.
