Two women from Elsipogtog First Nation have received suspended sentences and placed on probation after intimidating the media following last year’s violent protest in Rexton.
35-year-old Angel Mae Wilcox and 37-year-old Abby Gail Ward each pleaded guilty to a charge of intimidation.
On October 19th of last year in Rexton, several TV reporters and technicians were prevented from getting video footage of burned out RCMP vehicles after a violent shale gas protest two days earlier.
The reporters were told to get out of the area and leave their vehicles and equipment behind.
The judge sentenced both women to complete 100 hours of community service and they are prohibited from attending any shale gas activities or protests.
25-year-old Tyson Peters from Elsipogtog has also pleaded guilty to a charge of intimidation and will sentenced on January 15th.
