Thousands In The Province Still Without Power

NB Power crews continue to work this morning to get all of their customers back on this grid.

At the height of the snowstorm, there were over 40 thousand residences and businesses without power. That has been reduced to just over 3300. Most of them are still in the Fredericton area, with almost 2000 outages at this hour, and over 1000 in the Sussex area.

Some NB Power customers are expressing frustration, because they are the same ones who were hit last year, and left without power for days.

NB Power spokesperson Marie-Andre Bolduc says it’s important that we look at weather patterns, and be ready for when storms hit.

“Weather conditions seem to be more extreme and more violent, so we have to learn from past experiences and always be as ready as possible.”

NB Power expects to have 99 per cent of customers restored by tonight. The small number of customers who will be out of power beyond that are mostly individual customer outages, seasonal properties or those with damage to their electrical entrances, and those customers will be contacted directly.

The snowstorm that started on Wednesday night dumped around 32 centimetres of snow on the Moncton region.
