Downtown Moncton was lit up with lights, decorations and laughter as the Majesta Greater Moncton Santa Claus Parade was a tremendous success.
That’s according to the President of the Parade Committee Jean Richard who says the entire city came together to show off the third largest Christmas Parade in Canada.
Richard says organizing the Parade takes an incredible amount of work and he’s proud of how smoothly everything went last night.
“We’re quite pleased with the turnout, again probably record number of crowds along the parade route all along Main street Moncton,” says Richard. “Right on from Champlain place down to Paul street crowds were at least ten to fifteen rows deep.”
He says the event could not have gone on without the help of volunteers from all walks of life right across the City and extends his thanks to everyone who contributed.
Richard says the number most often thrown around when talking about number of people watching is about 100,000, but that number is an older estimate from a few years ago when done by the RCMP.
He says that while parking was still a problem this year, there were no reports of cars getting booted or towed in lots off Main street, and he says it was a great help for all the private parking lots to open their doors and let people park for free.
Richard says the thirty person parade committee is already getting started planning next year’s event.
