More “Heavy Drinkers” In Saint John Than In Fredericton, Moncton

If you’ve recently taken in the ambiance of the uptown bar district on a Saturday night, you may not be shocked by this: Saint Johnners are drinking quite a bit more than anyone else in the tri-cities.

But Fredericton is now out-puffing and out-eating Saint John: 27.3% of folks in the Capital are obese, compared with approximately 25% in both Saint John and Moncton. 22.6% of Frederictonians smoke, compared with 20.3% of Saint Johnners and 18.4% in the Hub City.

A Saint Johnner’s average life expectacy is just a little below the Canadian national average – which is 81 years – at 79.5.

The numbers come from an online tool by the Canadian Institute for Health Information, which lets you search city or neighbourhood and see how they compare on a variety of health indicators. To check it out, click here
