Moncton Mayor Feeling Festive For Christmas Season

Christmas in downtown Moncton may be a little bittersweet for some this year.

Now that Highfield Square is coming down, many residents are saying goodbye to a piece of their past.

But Mayor George Leblanc says this will pave the way for a new downtown entertainment centre, which will bring even more life to the Hub during the festive season.

He says, “I think that the new downtown centre will also be a centre of attraction for Christmas events.”

As for this season., Mayor Leblanc says he is really looking forward to the arrival of Old Saint Nick on November 22nd. The jolly ole’ fellow will be featured, as always, in the 47th annual Majesta Greater Moncton Santa Claus Parade.

Leblanc says, “It’s the largest christmas parade in New Brunswick, and probably the largest parade in Eastern Canada. it is a huge event for the downtown, and even Santa knows that downtown Moncton is where things really happen.”

This year’s parade will get underway an hour earlier, at 5pm.
