Legion branches everywhere anticipate an increase in money generated from this year’s poppy campaign.
Most are reporting increased donations.
Legion member and veterans’ advocate Roger Purnell says money raised from the sales of poppies is put to good use. He says it goes towards helping with their scholarships and bursaries, working with other youth organizations that need their support but mainly it goes to veterans who may need assistance.
Last month’s deaths of two military men, one in Ottawa and the other in Quebec, appear to have increase public interest in veterans and today’s men and women in uniform.
