Jail Guards Ready To Take Strike Vote

Jail guards who work in the provincial jails are another step closer to walking off the job with a strike vote is scheduled for November 18th.

The jail guards are members of Local 1251 of the Canadian Union of Public Employees and the union says they have been without a contract for almost 3 years.

CUPE argues they’re the lowest paid in the country and they want wage parity with guards who work in the other Atlantic provinces. Another issue in the contract dispute is the treatment of casuals.
