The President of the Building and Construction Trades Council says every New Brunswicker should get behind the proposed Energy East pipeline.
Gary Ritchie warns if construction is flat, your economy is in trouble. He has been meeting with Trans Canada to talk aboutj the labour needs for the project.
Besides the pipeline, Ritchie says there will be more work with five pump stations along the pipeline route, a tank storage terminal and a new marine terminal so the oil can be exported overseas. He describes the spinoffs as huge whereas, in his view, by comparison, there’s no work with wind farms and solar panels.
Ritchie also speculates there would likely be upgrades at the Irving Oil refinery.
As for any environmental concerns, Ritchie points out we alreadyh have a natural gas pipeline that has worked well and is barely noticeable.
