It’s National Adoption Month

The New Brunswick Adoption Foundation is hoping to raise awareness and break some of the stereotypes associated with adopting an older child.

November is National Adoption Month.

Provincial Coordinator for the New Brunswick Adoption Support Network Francoise Corbin Boucher says in the province, there are 498 children awaiting adoption, with 60 per cent of them over the age of 11. She says, “A lot of adoptive families, when they do apply to adopt, they are wanting to adopt a younger child, sometimes preschool age, sometimes up to age 8. There are a lot of these kids who are preteeen on teenage years that would really need a home.”

The provincial support network helps those who have adopted or who are currently waiting to adopt. Since its creation three years ago, it has helped over 300 people.
