The candidates for the Conservatives and NDP in the November 17th by-election in Saint John East are jumping all over the Liberals for their mixed message on shale gas.
Conservative Glen Savoie maintains shale gas presents a generational opportunity to grow the economy and turn around what former Liberal Premier Frank McKenna calls a death spiral for the economies of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.
Provincial NDP leader Dominic Cardy says the Liberals are looking incompetent and incoherent.
Cardy points out the New Democrats have been researching shale gas for three years now and their position is that the decision on whether or not to go ahead be based on safety and profitability.
