Day One of Justin Bourque Sentencing Hearing

During an interrogation video shown on the first day of a sentencing hearing for 24-year-old Justin Bourque, the admitted killer told an investigator he planned to burn down gas stations before ultimately carrying out the shootings of five police officers.

Bourque faces three counts of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder as a timeline of events on that fateful day of June 4 was revealed yesterday in Moncton Court of Queen’s Bench.

911 eyewitness recordings revealed a man wearing camouflaged clothing and carrying guns down the streets of northwest Moncton.

Shortly before 8pm, Cst. Fabrice Gevaudan was shot on Bromfield Court where fellow officers dragged him into a garage and first responders spent 2 hrs trying to revive him.

Cst Dave Ross was shot in his SUV and an officer pulled his body behind a home on Mailhot Avenue.

Chilling dispatch audio of Cst Darlene Goguen was heard… she was shot in the back of the neck on Hildegarde in her vehicle.

Cst Eric Dubois was hit by projectiles nearby in his vehicle.

Cst Doug Larche was the fifth officer shot after a confrontation with Bourque.

Among the things Bourque mentioned during 3 hours of interrogation, “I’m not a bad guy, I’m just a cop killer”

Bourque sat calmly in the prisoner’s dock throughout the hearing and intently watched more than three hours of his own interrogation video.

Wearing a grey sweatshirt with short hair and a beard, Bourque showed little emotion during the proceedings.
In the interrogation video, Bourque was seen calm and rambled about how Canada is a socialist police state and there’s been a need for an uprise for a long time.

When the investigator asked Bourque what he would say to the wives of the slain officers, he replied, “I’m sorry I killed your husband. He was probably a good man but he was working for the Crown”.

During his interrogation, Bourque told the investigator you really don’t have freedom of speech in this country and went on to say, “soldiers kill soldiers. I don’t see why what I did is any different.”
