UPDATE: Victim Impact Statements Read At Justin Bourque Sentencing Hearing

The two day sentencing hearing continues in a Moncton courtroom.

A second courtroom has been set up, with a video feed to accommodate the large number of people in attendance, including members of the media, family and friends of the victims, and RCMP.

There was a flood of emotions this morning as the families read victim impact statements. Some of them were there in the courtroom to deliver their statements while others were recorded.

Statements came from the wives of Constable Doug Larche, Constable Dave Ross and Constable Fabrice Gevaudan, as well as other family members.

A fellow RCMP officer also spoke of losing three colleagues. The two injured officers in the incident, Constables Darlene Goguen and Constable Eric Dubois have chosen not to give statements today.

Justin Bourque showed no remorse as he entered the courtroom today. He is calm, and has shorter hair, and has grown a beard.

Twenty-four-year-old Bourque pleaded guilty to three counts of first degree murder and two counts of attempted murder.

On June 4th, Bourque shot and killed Constable Larche, Constable Ross and Constable Gevaudan.

Chief Justice David Smith told Bourque he could be facing consecutive life sentences with no chance of parole for 75 years. If this is granted, it would be the harshest sentence in Canada since the last execution in 1962.
