Chris Collins Elected Speaker At NB Legislature

Moncton-Centre MLA Chris Collins has been chosen as the Speaker of the House of the New Brunswick legislature.

In keeping with legislative tradition, Premier Brian Gallant and Opposition Leader Bruce Fitch dragged a “reluctant” Collins to the throne where he offered his thanks to the members for his election.

Collins was first elected as the MLA for Moncton East in a March 2007 byelection after serving on Moncton City Council.

He later served in cabinet during the Graham government and had several critic roles in opposition.

Collins is a passionate advocate for families with sick children and for improving pediatric oncology care in the province.

His own son Sean passed away at the age of 13 from cancer.

Earlier today, MLA’s who were elected in last month’s provincial vote were also sworn-in during a ceremony in the legislature.
