Premier Brian Gallant announcing a byelection will be held on November 17 in the riding of Saint John East to fill the vacancy left by Liberal MLA-elect Gary Keating, who resigned just a few short weeks after being elected.
Keating, who is the principal of Simonds High, saying he realized the hours and travel associated with the gig would have a negative impact on his health and family and apologizing to his constituents.
Keating won Saint John East riding by a nine vote margin over Conservative Glen Savoie in a judicial recount.
It was the closest race in the September 22 election.
