Haiti School Honouring NB RCMP Sargeant Opens

A vocational school that was built in Haiti to honour a New Brunswick RCMP officer will offer many students opportunities they never had before.

RCMP Sergeant Mark Gallagher was one of 220,000 people killed when a 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck Haiti almost 5 years ago.

Chairman of the group “Friends of Mark Gallagher” Richard Blaquiere says they’ll be keeping a close eye to see whether or not they can expand the facility in the years to come.

He says five courses are being offered at the Sergeant Mark Gallagher vocational school including carpentry, secretarial and agriculture and there are currently 100 students attending.

A ceremony will be held on November 23rd to mark the official opening of the school.
