Close the gates! That’s message from the province with access gates being left open.
A release from the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure warns leaving these gates open puts drivers at higher risk of being involved in a collision with a moose.
They also note that the integrity of wildlife fencing is critical to highway safety so if you are using the gates to enter or leave a wooded or remote area you are being reminded to close them.
We have about 300 collisions involving moose every year and they occur mostly between dusk and dawn.
