As the provincial election campaign wound up over the weekend, there was an anti-shale gas demonstration in Rexton.
The only party to come out in favour of forging straight ahead with shale gas exploration has been the Conservatives. Party leader David Alward maintains the regulations the Conservatives have drawn up are the strongest you’ll find in any jurisdiction.
Alward spoke out against fracking when in opposition because he claims the Liberals under then Premier Shawn Graham hadn’t come up with tough enough regulations when they invited the companies in.
