New Report On Fracking Contradicts Previous Reports

Can fracking be done safely? That question has been asked time and time again during the provincial election campaign.

The U.S. Department of Energy has released a technical report on the results of what it describes as a limited field study that monitored fracking in western Pennsylvania.

Results indicate, at that one location, there was no detectable upward migration of gas or fluids from the hydraulic fracturing that would contaminate aquifers and drinking water. These results contradict other reports proving the opposite.

Provincial Liberal leader Brian Gallant wants a moratorium until it can be proven scientifically that fracking can be done safely.

Gallant has also raised the question in an interview with us whether there’s even enough of a supply to make shale gas commercially viable in the province.
