After an internal review, the City of Moncton has found that it’s doing a reasonably good job in the areas of the environment, economy, culture, social and governance.
But the city is not ready to pat itself on the back just yet.
City Manager Jacques Dube says more than 80 percent of the time, the city either hit or almost hit its targets, but they’d like to reach higher, “Clearly we want to do better for the next time, but it gives us a great baseline.”
Dube cites an example from the Moncton Fire Department which had a response time of four minutes but was asked to work towards three minutes.
Although the shorter response time was not achieved, Dube adds the department still recorded a response time last year of 3 minutes and 19 seconds which is a big improvement.
Social housing is another area in which they will strive to do better. Dube says, “We didn’t do a lot in that area in 2013 for a variety of reasons, so we’re working in that area now. We’re in the process of hiring a Social Inclusion Coordinator.”
