Fraud changes against Carleton-Victoria Liberal candidate Andy Harvey and members of his family have been withdrawn.
Charges were filed against Andy Harvey, David Harvey and Fred Harvey and three companies including the Miramichi Wreath Company and Harvey Farm and Forest Limited.
Assistant Deputy Attorney General Luc Labonté releasing a statement saying the decision to withdraw charges rests solely with the Crown Prosecutor’s office which is independent from government.
A secondary review of the case was initiated because of its profile which found the charges could not proceed.
Another review will held to determine why charges were laid in the first place.
The Liberals calling for an apology from PC leader David Alward for his comments on the now-withdrawn fraud charges against Carleton-Victoria Liberal candidate Andy Harvey.
Dieppe Liberal candidate Roger Melanson accusing Alward of taking a page from Stephen Harper’s book by going on the attack when charges had not been proven.
The Grits are also demanding an explanation for the so-called “suspicious circumstances” surrounding the timing of the charges.
Harvey has rejoined the Liberal caucus.
