The RCMP, Saint John Police Force, KV Police, and a number of other law enforcement agencies seized a massive haul of cocaine, marijuana, heroin, weapons, paraphenalia and cash across the province yesterday.
The 3-year Operation J-Tornado resulted in 29 arrests in what Staff Sergant Al Farrah described as an organized crime situation involving 3 criminal groups. Farrah described the system as similar to that of a conventional business, with suppliers outside the province–and one in Moncton–securing large quantities of drugs, then relying on “runners” to distribute them to other communities.
The seizure of a large amount of heroin was unusual in this province: Farrah says that points to someone trying to set themselves up as a major supplier.
No word on the dollar value of the drugs, guns and cash seized–and police similarly declined to specify a connection to biker groups or any other specific criminal organization.
When asked whether more arrests were imminent, Farrah cautioned that “wherever organized crime is, we will also be.”
