Many NB’ers facing literacy challenges

MONCTON, N.B. – About 60 percent of New Brunswickers aged 16 and over have literacy challenges according to an organization devoted to helping adult learners.

Deanna Allen, executive director of Laubach Literacy New Brunswick, says some progress is being made but there’s still a long way to go.

Allen says literacy should be everyone’s concern and there is no quick fix or one-size-fits-all solution to the problem.

Allen says another challenge her organization faces is that there continues to be a higher demand for skills in our everyday lives.

This is International Literacy Day and various events are taking place across the province.
