NB Liberals unveil election platform

MONCTON, N.B. – The provincial Liberals have released their election platform spelling out their plan to right New Brunswick’s economy, balance the books and drive job growth.

The 42-page document, officially released this morning in Moncton, includes details of a moratorium on shale gas development and a goal of creating jobs over the next six years through $900-million in infrastructure spending.

It also outlines the party’s plan for resource development, including support for the Energy East pipeline, and a promise to balance the books within six years.

Party leader Brian Gallant says his agenda would lead to the creation of at least 10,000 jobs.

“If our economic development agencies work the way that we think they’re going to be able to, if our investments in a skilled workforce help the way that we think they’re going to, if our cuts to small business taxes help stimulate the economy…we’ll be able to even create more than 10,000 jobs for New Brunswickers.”

Both the NDP and the Tories have painted the plan as ‘irresponsible’ free-spending.
