ELF Seeks Reading Volunteers

MONCTON, N.B. – Sometimes all it takes to help a child is to read them a good book.

That’s why Elementary Literacy Friends, better known as ELF, is looking for more volunteers to participate in its one-on-one program for grade two students this fall.

The commitment is for 20 hours over the course of ten weeks and, as executive director Erin Schryer tells us, everything you need to get started is supplied by the organization.

“We train our volunteers. We give them a curriculum. We give them a kit that they need that has books in it. It has resources in it that they need to bring to their tutoring session with children in the schools.”

Schryer says a full list of requirements and instructions to register for the program can be found on their website www.elfnb.com

The ELF program is now in more than one hundred schools across the province including 15 in Metro Moncton.
