The Greens Announce Poverty Plan

The Green Party plan to tackle poverty includes raising social assistance rates by 10 per cent next year and by another 5 per cent in 2016.

Leader David Coon says they would also replace the minimum wage with a living wage phased in over four years.

He says this province has 24,000 people working for minimum wage in full-time jobs and living in poverty because they don’t make enough to meet basic needs and that needs to change.

The Greens would also ensure people with an income of $20,000 or less do not pay provincial income tax.

Coon says they will also have corporations pay more income tax which will generate $64 million dollars in new revenue.
