Provincial Liberal leader Brian Gallant used Labour Day to propose the minimum wage be raised to 11 dollars an hour by the end of 2017.
The minimum wage in New Brunswick is 10 dollars an hour and will be the lowest when Newfoundland and Labrador go up to $10.25 an hour next month.
The Retail Council of Canada has said any increases in the minimum wage should be tied directly to what the yearly increase in the cost of living is as measured by the Consumer Price Index.
