Volunteers help to make FIFA Under-20 event a success

MONCTON, NB–Hundreds of people are working behind the scenes in Moncton to ensure that the matches of the FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup go off without a hitch.

One of those volunteers is Moncton native and retired public servant Bob Allain who is giving his time in the media centre.

He says volunteers have traveled from around the region, and even from as far away as Europe to help make the event a success.

But, he tells us most are from Metro Moncton, which is a further example of the dedication of the people in our region.

“An official from the City of Moncton indicated to me that they had something like 4300 signed up volunteers who worked throughout the year in different events, and for a city of 65, 000 to 70, 000 people, that’s pretty impressive.”

Allain says he was happy to join up and give back to such an important event for the region.

Moncton’s remaining games will be a quarterfinal match and a semifinal match at Moncton Stadium next week.
