A community grows stronger when people have opportunities not only to receive support, but also to contribute their talents, share their stories, learn new skills and build meaningful connections. That belief is at the heart of The Mandate Development Centre (TMDC), a community-focused social enterprise based in Moncton, New Brunswick.
Our work begins with a simple question: how can we bring people, ideas and resources together to create practical, lasting value? For TMDC, the answer is not one program or one event. It is an evolving ecosystem connecting community development, media and creative production, and housing and community solutions.
Community development: a helping hand and a place to belong

Many people first encounter TMDC through The Helping Hand Project, our community outreach initiative centred on compassion, volunteer service and practical support. From community gatherings and seasonal outreach to activities that bring neighbours together, these efforts are about more than the items distributed or the events hosted. They are about dignity, relationships and the reminder that no one should feel invisible in their own community.
Our message, “Kindness Is Power,” reflects the role that small, consistent actions can play in building trust. Volunteers, local businesses, community organizations and individual supporters each have something meaningful to offer. We want to make it easier for people to move from caring about an issue to participating in a solution.
TMDC also supports opportunities for learning, skills development and community participation. Through initiatives such as Moncton Creates, we have been exploring ways for emerging creatives, newcomers and other community members to gain practical experience, develop confidence and connect with others who share their interests.

Media and creative production: stories that connect us
Stories shape how communities see themselves. Through TMDC Studios, the creative production arm of The Mandate Media Group Ltd, we develop film, television, documentary and digital media projects that create room for diverse voices and local experiences.
Our productions include community conversation programs such as MY COMMUNITY and Ma COMMUNAUTÉ now live on Rogers TV, as well as scripted and documentary storytelling that explores identity, belonging, resilience and human connection. We see creative production as both a cultural contribution and a pathway to learning: an opportunity for people to build experience in writing, acting, camera work, production and collaboration.
This work also reflects a broader ambition for New Brunswick’s creative sector. We are developing NB Creates as a proposed platform for connecting creative talent, industry stakeholders and opportunities across the province. It remains an initiative in development, and we look forward to engaging with potential partners as the vision takes shape.

Housing and practical community solutions
Belonging also depends on stability and access to everyday essentials. TMDC’s housing and community-solutions work explores practical responses to challenges such as affordability, access to resources and pathways toward more stable living conditions.
Among the concepts we are developing are The Bridge Centre, envisioned as a welcoming space for community connection and access to opportunities, and Affordables NB, a community-oriented approach to affordable essentials, reuse, donations and free finds. These projects are at different stages of development; our focus is on listening, testing ideas and building partnerships before expanding services.
Building the next generation of community tools
We are also exploring how digital tools can reduce friction for the people we serve. Platforms in development include Beyond the Bell and TMDC After-School for youth and family engagement, a Helping Hand Project platform for community participation, and digital spaces supporting TMDC Studios, Affordables NB and NB Creates. FORGE with Tayo Adeyemi is also being developed as a platform for conversations about leadership, creativity, innovation and community possibilities.
Technology alone does not create impact. Our goal is to build useful, accessible tools around real needs, and to introduce each service responsibly as it becomes ready.
