George Douglas England

1948 – 2026

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of George Douglas England on Wednesday, October 14, 2026 in Moncton, NB.

Born in North Kingston, Nova Scotia, he is predeceased by his father Robert and mother, Winnifred (Allen), his brothers Lawrence and John, and sister, Beatrice (Pinch).

He is most proud of winning the heart of Maureen (MacEachern), whom he married in 1971 and never stopped loving until 47 years later when she passed unexpectedly due to cancer. George is survived by his two children, Brent and Selinda, and deeply missed by sister-in-law, Caroline (MacEachern) and her husband, Donald Fougere of Antigonish, NS.

George was a man of many talents, whether it be fixing appliances, doing repairs around the house, or making the best Thanksgiving stuffing you ever ate, he loved to work with his hands and help others. His son Brent fondly remembers George coaching his hockey team to several championship finals, and joining him on golf courses throughout the Maritimes for a round or two. In his later years, George often invited Brent over to watch the latest Toronto Blue Jays or Maple Leafs game together, or chat about current news topics.

His daughter Selinda will always remember George as a funny guy, bringing laughter to the dinner table with his wit, or a teasing jab, all while enjoying a delicious meal or some sweet snack. Selinda’s father instilled in her the joy of travel; she fondly remembers George driving the family from Halifax clean to Victoria BC one summer, of flying everyone to LA to see the “Old West” – the Painted Desert, Las Vegas, Monument Valley, and the Grand Canyon, and of treating the family to Disneyworld – every child’s dream.

Travels became an integral part of the England family; George and Maureen – sometimes with Brent and Selinda – visited two-thirds of the U.S., parts of Mexico, cruised the Western Caribbean, and even saw parts of Asia (Japan and Thailand).

The nature of George’s work took his family to many places where they lived and explored, including: Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, and Ontario before settling down and enjoying retired life in New Brunswick.

Brent and Selinda wish to thank the nurses, continuing care assistants, and staff at Garraway Hall (Shannex Moncton) who cared for George in his last year.

Per his wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation or funeral service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the War Amps of Canada, the Canadian Cancer Society, Parkinson Canada, or to your local food bank.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the professional care of Fergusons Riverview Funeral Centre & Fergusons Crematorium, 214 Pine Glen Rd. Riverview, NB. (506) 857-9544.
