Roy Thomas Carter

July 6, 1936  –  October 2, 2026

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Roy Carter of Moncton on Friday October 2, 2026 at the Moncton Hospital at age 92. Roy was the eldest son of the late Raymond and Annie (Leonard) Carter of Kouchibouguac, New Brunswick.

He is survived by his dedicated wife of 67 years, Dorothy (Flanagan); his daughters Laurie Mullins (Jeff) of Debert NS, Susan Jamieson (Mark) of Moncton, Lynn Carter Thain (Tracy Bonang) of Dartmouth NS and Lisa (Ian Chisholm) of Ottawa ON; his grandchildren Josh, Christina, Alex, Ashley, Megan, Eileen and Malcolm; as well as seven great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

He is also survived by brothers Frank (Lorraine), Ronald (Ann), and Ray (Janice); sisters Helen Stride (Ed), Donna Bernard (late Scott) and Maureen Strong (John); brother-in-law Bob Meschino; sister-in-law Hilda Carter; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters Christina Daigle, Joan and Julia Carter; and by his brothers William and John (late Lillian).

Roy enjoyed a long career with Petro Fina/Petro Canada in both Moncton and Dartmouth NS, retiring with over 32 years’ service. He was actively involved with Lewisville Minor Hockey for many years. He was a longtime parishioner of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church where he also served as an usher and Parish Council volunteer. He was a 4th Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus Council #1310 and served on the Executive. After retirement, never one to be idle, he spent more than 20 years as an usher at the Moncton Coliseum and worked many Moncton Wildcats games.

Although Roy knew many people in the community, his greatest joy was his family to whom he was deeply devoted. He had a great memory for things that happened years ago and loved to tell stories. He was a big hockey fan and loved to socialize with friends and family. In earlier years, he enjoyed fishing on the Miramichi in Quarryville, doing handyman work, and keeping his yard in immaculate condition. Roy made a lasting impression on all those he met. He will be dearly missed.

Visitation at Fergusons Funeral Home & Fergusons Crematorium, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (506-858-1995) on Wednesday from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, October 8, 2026 at 11:00 am from St. Bernard’s Roman Catholic Church (Botsford St). A reception will follow in the Church Hall.
