The New Brunswick government is investing $1 million into research as part of its economic development strategy.
The new funding has already let Research NB launch new programs focused on areas like forestry and technologies for civilian and defence applications.
Research NB CEO Candice Pollack said it’s the beginning of developing more programs aligned with government priorities and responsive to the needs of New Brunswickers.
“Research is about more than what we discover,” she said. “It’s about what those discoveries make possible.”
Pollack said the investment gives the organization more capacity to support promising ideas and connect the right people, as well as turning New Brunswick’s research strengths into practical solutions that benefit the province.
Post-Secondary Education and Training Minister Jean-Claude D’Amours said no one is more invested in solving problems affecting New Brunswickers than New Brunswickers themselves.
“More than ever, we need to capitalize on the talent we have in New Brunswick,” the minister said. “Funding research in key areas such as health, natural resources, technology-driven sectors and defence-related industries is essential to growing New Brunswick’s potential.”
