Drivers warned to stay alert as students head back to school

RCMP are reminding drivers to slow down and stay alert around school zones and crosswalks as students prepare to head back to class.

Officers say they investigated a video from April that appeared to show a driver failing to stop for a school crossing guard who was assisting pedestrians.

As a result of the investigation, a 36-year-old Moncton woman was issued a ticket.

RCMP say crossing guards play a vital role in keeping children safe and drivers are required to obey their instructions at all times.

Officers add that information provided by community members helped advance the investigation.
