Contraband, drugs seized at Atlantic Institution

Staff at a New Brunswick penitentiary seized several contraband items recently.

According to a release from Correctional Service Canada, the seizure happened at Atlantic Institution in Renous on June 21.

The seizure included cellphones and accessories, USB keys, and quantities of steroids, cocaine, methamphetamine and “brew.”

CSC estimated the institutional value of the items at $110,850.

CSC uses a variety of tools to keep drugs out of prisons, including ion scanners and drug-sniffing dogs to search buildings, personal property, inmates and visitors.

The agency is also increasing measures to prevent contraband from getting into prisons to ensure a safe and secure environment.
