If the federal government’s new social media protection bill doesn’t go far enough, New Brunswick’s premier is ready to do more.
Susan Holt said earlier this week she supports the federal push for a ban on social media for children under 16.
In a social media post, she said there’s growing evidence excessive social media use has measurable effects on the mental health of young people.
She said as a mother of three young girls, she sees the effects daily.
But if the Carney government’s actions don’t go far enough, Holt said New Brunswick is prepared to use the available tools to improve protections here at home.
The statement came as the federal government was expected to introduce legislation to improve the safety of social media for children.
