1941-2026
Moncton NB~ It is with a heavy heart and deep sadness that we announce the passing of Léa Cormier, at the age of 84, on Tuesday, June 2nd, 2026, at the Moncton Hospital.
Born in Grande-Digue, she was the daughter of the late Patrick Downing and the late Florida (Brun) Downing.
Mom was an amazing and wonderful woman who loved her 4 children (and their spouses), 2 grandchildren, and honored to have her great-grandchild named Leah after her. She was the steady heart of our family whose love and encouragement shaped who we are today. She loved to read and listen to music, but her passion was dancing, doing the waltz, chacha and two step. Our mom loved people. It was very easy for her to make friends. She would talk with anyone with open arms and was very caring of others.
She was taken to soon, but God had other plans.
She will be sadly missed by her children: Victor Cormier (Marie-Paule) of Moncton, Brenda Poirier (Paul) of Florida, Pauline Reed (Barry) of Dieppe and David Cormier( Tanya) of Riverview; her brothers: Edouard Downing (Thérèse) and Alonzo Downing (Phyllis) both of Grande-Digue; her sisters: Maria Cormier (Fernand) of Shediac, Stella Cloutier (late Gilbert) of Moncton, Claira Léger (late Alfred) of Grande-Digue and Yvette Downing (Derek) of Mahone Bay, NS; her grandchildren: Michael and Melissa (Cameron); as well as her great granddaughter, Leah.
Léa was predeceased by her loving husband, Edouard Cormier; her brother, Gérald; as well as her sisters: Alberta and Jeannine.
The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude for the love, prayers and the support shown to them during their time of bereavement.
Visitation will be held at Passage, 3754 Route 134, Shediac Bridge, NB, (506) 532-1050, on Wednesday, June 10th, from 4pm to 8pm and on Thursday, June 11th, from 9am to 10am, followed by the funeral service in the chapel at 10am.
