UPDATE: Andrew Leblanc excited for second term as Riverview Mayor

With no other candidates for Mayor in the town of Riverview, Andrew Leblanc was acclaimed to serve for his second term.

“We had a great slate of candidates running in Riverview. We’ve got a great team that is gonna serve as the council elect and the next team to come in,” Leblanc stated after all of the results had been tallied and the unofficial winners were announced.

“I think when I look at the candidates who got elected, all of them are bringing some passion for their community. And I think that’s one thing that’s going to really unite the next team is that everybody is really focused on what we can do to make the town a better place for our residents. I think everyone’s got a genuine interest and a genuine passion,” Leblanc expressed.

He said there were several common themes he heard when speaking to residents, but public safety was top of mind for most, ” I think a lot of people are looking at what we’re doing to keep our community safe, whether that’s looking at fire and rescue or looking at police services and making sure they have the proper amount of resources, looking at additional officers or additional equipment or whatever that may be.”

The new council members will officially be sworn in on June 1. He added that one of the first things they’ll do as a council elect is to sit down and go through some of those issues. “I think it’s a really good exercise to just go through those issues and make sure that the decisions we’re gonna make as a council are really informed by the feedback that we got from our residents.”

Leblanc also expressed his thanks to all of the residents of the town of Riverview for allowing him to serve as mayor for another four years. “It’s been the honour of a lifetime, and I’m very humbled by the opportunity to continue to serve as mayor for the next four years with this new team.”

Glenn Miller and Samantha Burke both won seats as councillors at large, along with incumbent Cecile Cassista. Stephen Gouzoules lost his seat on the council by a little over 300 votes.

Kelly Forsythe Preston squeaked out a victory in Ward 3 over incumbent Jeremy Thorne. Dennis Woods and Jessica Bourque will also be new faces around the Riverview council table, along with incumbent Richard Blackstock.
