Another grass fire along the Petitcodiac River this week.
Moncton Fire Deputy Chief Keith Guptill says crews responded on Tuesday evening.
It wasn’t a major fire, but Guptill says it was still concerning because it required more than 500 feet of hose to extinguish it.
“There have been quite a number of them this year, but not a significant difference from past years. I truly believe that the Irishtown Fire last year has given all of us a heightened sense of awareness of them,” Guptill added.
He says there is a projection that we could see one of the driest summers we’ve had in many years, based on snowfall/snow melt and rain.
He offered a few tips on how residents can avoid setting grass and forest fires, “The public simply needs to pay attention to the NB forest index, as well as not throwing burning cigarette butts out their windows while driving.”
Guptill added that preparations are underway to ensure staff and equipment are ready for whatever comes their way this season.
