3rd suspect arrested in Amherst, N.S., fatal shooting

A third suspect has been arrested in connection to a fatal shooting in Amherst, Nova Scotia, earlier this month.

Amherst Police say the 34-year-old man from Springhill, Nova Scotia, was taken into custody Thursday afternoon in Moncton, New Brunswick. He is due in court, Friday.

He had been at large after the two other suspects, one man and one woman aged 56 and 42 were arrested April 16 for the murder of 41-year-old Chris Leggett. The two other suspects will appear in court, May 6.

It was in the evening of April 13 when police responded to a call about a loud bang on Prince Arthur Street in Amherst. Once on scene, officers found the victim on the ground with a gunshot wound to the lower back.

He was taken to hospital where he later died.

The suspects left the scene in a dark coloured SUV. The vehicle was stolen and turned into Codiac RCMP.

Amherst police had said they believed there was an altercation between all three before Leggett ran away until someone got out of the SUV and shot him with appeared to be a long gun.

Major Crimes has been working alongside multiple other agencies in the investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to call police.
