Growing concerns about crime in Moncton prompted the creation of a crime reduction and prevention plan.
Moncton City Council established the committee in October 2025. Members are Councillors Daniel Bourgeois, Bryan Butler, Monique LeBlanc, and Charles Léger and the Executive Director for Downtown Moncton Centreville Inc, Patrick Richard.
A special public meeting will be held on Thursday, April 23 at 6 pm in Moncton City Council Chambers. The public can also watch online on the City of Moncton YouTube channel.
Committee members compiled statistics, conducted interviews and looked at similar plans in other cities.
After months of data collection, the plan lists five measurable goals, which are to reduce the crime and crime severity index by 10 per cent each year, implement crime prevention measures to reduce crime by five per cent each subsequent year, increase public confidence that the City of Moncton is a safe community and implement seamless, effective and efficient governance for police services in Moncton.
The committee says that if the council can achieve these goals in three years, it will pave the way towards a safe city.
