This morning I was listening to Dr. Rob Gilbert like I do most mornings, and he said something that really hit me:
“It’s not how great the opportunity is… it’s how great you are at the opportunity.”
That’s powerful.
Most people spend their time looking for the perfect opportunity.
High performers spend their time preparing themselves so when the opportunity shows up… they’re ready.
Two people can get the exact same opportunity:
• The same presentation
• The same championship game
• The same business deal
One rises to the moment.
The other doesn’t.
The opportunity didn’t change.
The person did.
It’s one of the reasons I’m obsessed with preparation before a keynote or a show. Preparation changes everything.
You stop thinking:
“I hope this goes well.”
And start thinking:
“I’m ready.”
This applies in sports, business, school, and everywhere.
Opportunities show up all the time.
But they reward the people who prepare for them.
So here’s a question worth asking:
Are you waiting for a great opportunity… or preparing yourself to be great when it arrives?
