Three Food Festivals Worth the Drive This March

One of my favourite things about living in Greater Moncton is that within an hour or two, you can find some incredible food scenes. And March is the perfect excuse to take a little road trip — because three food festivals nearby are giving you plenty of reasons to get out and eat.

Kame No Mori

First up is Love Local Eats in Sussex, and this one is super easy to jump into. Visit a participating restaurant, scan the QR code, and you’re entered to win 1 of four $50 gift cards. Simple motivation to eat local — I can support that.

While I was there, I stopped at Kame No Mori Sushi, and wow… some of the best sushi I’ve had in a long time. Amazing service too. I tried the Karaage Chicken and the Rosie’s Roll (crab), and both were packed with flavour. Another great stop was Knocks Café, where I had their spinach dip — which they apparently put on everything. After trying it, I completely understand why. It’s ridiculously good. There are plenty of other spots to check out too like Philly’s Subs & SpudsPicadilly Coffee, and more. Sussex has a surprisingly deep food lineup.

Next up is French Toast Fest in Amherst, and if you like breakfast food even a little, this one is dangerous. Local restaurants have each created their own creative French toast dishes, and some of them are seriously over the top. I stopped into Cheesecake Garage, and their version made with their homemade cinnamon rolls was absolutely next level. Sweet, rich, and exactly the kind of thing you drive for.

YFC Burger Battle

And if you’re still craving burgers after Moncton’s Burger Fest, don’t worry — Fredericton has you covered with their YFC Burger Battle

I made a trip up and tried a few. Claudine’s delivered an incredible burger — and yes, I also had their famous Caesar… which comes with a lobster roll on top. Completely reasonable behaviour. I also tried Picaroons’ Maple Cajun CrunchStorm 36’s 36 Slam, and Rustico’s “Tropic Like It’s Hot” burger. Yes, it has pineapple on it… and yes, it absolutely works. If you’re looking for a reason to get out of the city for a bit, this is it.

Love Local Eats (Sussex) runs until March 31
YFC Burger Battle (Fredericton) runs until March 21
French Toast Fest (Amherst) runs March 23–31

Three festivals. Three great excuses to eat your way around the region. 🚗🍔🍞
