Irene Dutcher

1940~2026

It is with deep love and sadness that the family of Irene Dutcher (née Gallant), 85, of Greater Lakeburn, New

Brunswick announce the loss of their beloved sister, wife, and mother, who passed this life on Saturday,

February 21, 2026. Born July 11, 1940, in Moncton, Westmorland County, New Brunswick, Irene lived a life centered on family, devotion, kindness and life’s simple pleasures. For 66 years, she shared a devoted marriage with her

husband, Laurie. Rarely was one seen without the other. She was his partner in crime, his best friend, and the love of his

life: Laurie will miss her terribly. Together they built a life grounded in love, loyalty, and partnership. They remained true romantics, faithfully enjoying date nights and their cherished Sunday drives.

Whether spending the day exploring, visiting friends, or going out for a meal, they were happiest together. Irene loved to shop, and Laurie patiently waited in the car, a small but perfect example of their enduring bond.

Family was Irene’s greatest pride and joy. Her smile would light up a room when she saw her children and grandchildren. She was a loving mother to her son, Larry Dutcher (Nicole), and to her daughters Lisa Major, Tracy Gagnon (Emery), and Lorriann Cormier. She was immensely proud of her grandchildren: Justin, Corey, Jeremy, Tyler, Joshua, Noah, and Paige, and her great-grandchildren Jacob, Jace, and Cameron. She was always there for them, no task was too small, no favour too large. Irene lived with an open hand and a ready heart.

In earlier years, Irene and Laurie enjoyed camping with their MCI bus and spending time with their camping friends. In winter, they travelled to Florida, U.S.A, always looking forward to the journey and the rest and rejuvenation the sun brought to them, while still being glad to return home. Irene loved the open road, new adventures, and the simple joy of the trip itself.

Following her many years lovingly caring for her large family at home, Irene’s benevolent nature was shared through her work feeding students in the cafeterias of local schools and in her private home care work with the elderly. She also enjoyed spending time with friends, whether at lunch or chatting on the phone. Connection and communication were the pillars of Irene’s life of service to others.

Irene was predeceased by her parents, Emile and Marguerite (Surette) Gallant; her daughter Lisa Major; her brothers Eddy, Oscar, Roy, Ben, Paul, Norman, Bill, and Eugene; her sisters Violet, Doreen, Florence, and Edna; and her son-in-law Roger Cormier.

She is survived by her husband Laurie; her children and grandchildren; her great-grandchildren; her four godchildren, her sister Gloria Allain; and many extended family members and friends.

Irene leaves behind a lifetime of memories and a love story that will continue through the generations she cherished so deeply.

On Saturday February 28, 2026, all are welcome to gather in commemoration of Irene’s life at Passage (Chartersville) Funeral Home, 363 Amirault Street, Dieppe, New Brunswick.
