Every afternoon in Riverview, something special happens inside the Drop-In Hub at BGC Riverview.
Doors open. Backpacks drop. Laughter fills the room. Homework comes out. Conversations begin.
For many local families, the Drop-In Hub is more than an after-school program — it’s a safe space, a support system, and a turning point.
A Safe Space After School
The hours between school dismissal and dinner can be the most challenging part of the day for working families. Our Drop-In Hub offers Riverview kids a supervised, welcoming environment where they can:
- Share a nutritious snack or meal
- Connect with friends
- Participate in creative activities
- Get active and unwind
- Access trusted adult mentors
No child is turned away because of cost. The Hub is built on accessibility and inclusion, ensuring every young person feels welcome and valued.
Free Tutoring That’s Changing Academic Paths
One of the most powerful aspects of our Drop-In program is our free tutoring support — and the impact has been transformational.
Many students arrive feeling frustrated, overwhelmed, or discouraged about school. Some are behind in reading. Others struggle with math. Homework can feel like a daily battle at home.
At the Hub, that changes.
Our dedicated staff and volunteers provide:
- One-on-one homework help
- Literacy and numeracy support
- Study skills and organizational guidance
- Encouragement and confidence-building
Because the tutoring is free and easily accessible right after school, barriers disappear. Families don’t have to worry about private tutoring fees or transportation challenges.
And the results speak for themselves.
Ashley Bourque BKin, BEd, MEd Mathematics, Science and Physical Education Teacher – “Bradley has been wonderful for one of my students. Someone who did not enjoy Math, and was often unmotivated to complete work during class, has made lots of progress, and is completing the majority of their weekly assignments since receiving this tutoring. Each week Bradley will check in with me about what we are working on during class time to best support this student and ensure we are on the same page. From conversing with the student, I know they have a genuine interest in attending these sessions as well. Forming positive relationships is essential for student growth, and it has been great to have someone else supporting this student in their academics!”
Students who once avoided homework now complete it consistently. Youth who felt “bad at math” are gaining confidence. Reading levels are improving. Report cards are showing progress. Most importantly, kids are beginning to believe in themselves again.
We’ve seen students go from disengaged and discouraged to motivated and proud of their achievements — and that shift can change the trajectory of a young person’s academic life.
More Than Homework Help
The Drop-In Hub isn’t only about academics. It’s about supporting the whole child.
Youth participate in arts and crafts, group activities, leadership opportunities, and local trips that expand their understanding of the community around them. They build friendships. They learn teamwork. They discover new talents.
A hot meal nourishes their bodies. Tutoring strengthens their minds. Connection builds their confidence.
Strengthening Families, Strengthening Riverview
When children have a safe place to go, families feel supported. Parents and caregivers know their kids are supervised, fed, encouraged, and learning.
The ripple effects extend beyond the Hub’s walls. Confident students become engaged learners. Engaged learners become capable leaders. And capable leaders strengthen the entire Riverview community.
At BGC Riverview’s Drop-In Hub, we’re not just filling time after school — we’re helping kids turn their academic lives around and giving them the tools they need to succeed.
Because every child deserves a place to belong — and a chance to thrive.
