September 3, 1947 – February 12, 2026
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Gerald Douglas Bannister, 78, of Moncton, New Brunswick, who left us peacefully on February 12, 2026. He is predeceased by his mother Megan Bannister (Legg), father Leonard Bannister, siblings David, Catherine-Ann, Bobby and Gary.
Gerald is survived by his devoted wife, Catherine, his loving children, Tania and Douglas, his cherished sister Sharon Ann Bannister and brother in law Brian Finck, numerous nieces and nephews and the greatest joys of his life—his treasured grandchildren, Jake and Reece. His family was the heart of everything he did, and he carried immense pride and affection for each of them.
A man of many talents, Gerald was known as a true master of all trades. Whether it was solving a problem, building something from nothing, or lending a skilled hand to someone in need, he approached every task with creativity, confidence, and determination. His passion for woodworking brought beauty into the world and joy to those lucky enough to receive pieces he crafted with care.
Anyone who knew Gerald would speak of his outgoing personality, his ability to light up any room, and his gift for making people feel welcome, valued, and entertained. He was always the life of the party—quick with a joke, a story, a grin or a bit of sarcasm that drew others in.
Gerald’s life was marked not only by his talents but by his extraordinary spirit. He fought—and overcame—major health challenges, defying every medical expectation placed before him. His resilience became a hallmark of his character, enabling his family to have an additional 11 years of fond memories with him.
Gerald is well known throughout the Moncton community for his extensive service of 35 years as a letter carrier with Canada Post and his devotion to the game of hockey. He became involved in the game 35 years ago as a coach, manager, parent and grandparent. He’s held multiple titles within Hockey New Brunswick and the Moncton Minor Hockey Association being recognized with the Order of Merit from Hockey Canada for his outstanding contributions to the game of hockey.
Above all, Gerald will be remembered for his deep love of family, his generosity, his laughter, and the countless ways he enriched the lives of those around him. His legacy lives on in the memories he created, the lessons he shared, and the people who loved him dearly.
He will be profoundly missed.
There will be no service or visitation per Gerald’s request. Gerald’s arrangements have been entrusted into the professional care of Fergusons Funeral Home & Fergusons Crematorium, 1657 Mountain Rd. Moncton, NB (506-858-1995).
